University Honors
OUR CHALLENGES
Honors students are remarkable young people who are having a profound effect on the universities they attend. As a result of the leadership and initiative shown by honors programs and students, universities across the country have experienced significant enhancements in both their social and academic atmosphere. Clearly, while honors programs may serve the needs of a few, their benefits extend well beyond the boundaries of such programs, enriching activities all across campus. Universities everywhere aggressively recruit these students just as athletic programs court star players. Thus, the ability to offer these students competitive scholarships is vital.
OUR STRENGTHS
Honors students are among our best leaders on campus and ambassadors outside it. They raise the level of discourse in the classes and study sessions in which they participate. They attract national attention in academic competitions and by winning prestigious scholarships. After graduation, as they attend the best graduate programs or enter the professional world, they publicize Virginia Tech's academic excellence. As they continue to succeed, they become living examples of that excellence.
OUR SOLUTIONS
The campaign will enable us to provide the scholarships, study abroad programs, independent research projects, and involvement in academic conferences that honors students demand. Contributions to the honors program will also help us create a director's chair -- a critical step in maintaining the University Honors program's success and making the program an even greater opportunity for its students.
WORKING TOGETHER TO INVENT THE FUTURE
As Virginia Tech continues to raise its academic standards, the role of a strong University Honors program will become increasingly important. Through The Campaign for Virginia Tech: Invent the Future, we will raise funds to support the operations and growth of University Honors and increase our ability to offer financial support for our students.
OUR CAMPAIGN PRIORITIES
- Scholarships: $4 million
- Director's chair: $1.5 million
- Unrestricted funds: $1 million
- Program support: $500,000
